The Walking Eye podcast have a special spooky edition in which they play some Dread for Halloween (or near Halloween).

Unfortunately, I’ve not had time to listen to the whole thing yet, but that shouldn’t stop you! Nothing should stop you! Nothing can! Go forth and find your destiny!

Speaking of Dread and Halloween, folks over at Gnome Stew have some tremendously nice things to say about Dread and the holiday.

I’m a little slow on the draw with these links, but it’s never too early to start planning for next Halloween.

Invasion of the podcasts here. In the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to chat it up with some prominent podcasters out there. For your enjoyment, I offer my Independent Insurgency interview with Rob Bohl. And the wonderful folks over at The Game Master Show were kind enough to record a Dread game (starting with the character creation at episode 36 and ending with the review session at episode 40) and then talk to me about it afterwards (episode 41).

The folks over at Flames Rising are having a contest in which you describe your favorite horror game. I know what mine is, but you should tell them about yours. There are even prizes involved.

Isolation is becoming more and more difficult these days, what with the Internet and relative ease of international shipping. Dread is seeping into corners of the world I never dreamt it would infest.

During the early days, before the book was published, I’d hear from the occasional player in some distant city of the U.S. who learned to play the game from a friend of a friend who played in one of our demonstrations at one of the many conventions we attended. The idea that someone in San Diego or Pittsburgh was enjoying Dread thrilled me.

Since its release in August of 2005, I’ve heard from players beyond the United States, in places like Israel, Australia, England, Italy, Finland, France, and Germany. And I can’t describe how delightfully odd it feels to know there are folks across oceans playing Dread in foreign languages.

And to be reviewed by them! German, Italian, French and a little piece from home.

Dread is now available alongside the many fine games at Indie Press Revolution. While you’re there, be sure to check out Brennan Taylor’s supernatural game, Mortal Coil, and the ever-popular Burning Wheel by Luke Crane. Captivating games by two of the sexier designers out there.

It was a complete surprise, but Dread won itself an ENnie. But here’s the trip: it wasn’t for either of the ENnies we were nominated for. This year they presented two judges’ choice awards for games and products the judges wanted to recognize. The first was the Grognard award for the most old school products. The silver went to Goodman Games and the gold went to Necromancer Games. The second was for innovation. The silver in this category went to Atomic Sock Monkey’s Truth & Justice, a game I really need to check out. And the gold ended up around the very neck of your humble narrator. They said so many wonderful things about Dread that modesty and euphoria induced amnesia prevents me from repeating here.

By the time you read this, chances are the voting will be over and it will all be up to the bean-counters and redistricting measures. Regardless of the outcome, I’m still beaming with pride over what we were able to accomplish: ENnie nominations in Best Rules and Best Game. And perhaps even more impressive, our honorable mention in the Best Product category.
